Tanin's Blog

About

This web log is an assignment for LIBR 500: Foundations of Information Technology I’m taking at SLAIS (School of Library and Information Studies) at the University of British Columbia in Autumn 2009. For the next couple of weeks, I’ll be reviewing and evaluating how Web 2.0 tools/service are being used in different libraries. I’ll try to sample various types of libraries—public, academic and special. I’ll open myself to experiencing different types of services such as blog, Facebook, flicker, You-tube videos, etc..

Not having been interested in using social media, taking this role is quite a challenge for me. I am not closed-minded about Web 2.0., just rather indifferent to using social media. In order to keep myself more engaged and interested, I need to role-play. I’ll become another person (tanin 他人 in Japanese) who is interested in and in need of being personally connected to the world.

*The name “tanin” was borrowed from the Japanese film Tanin no kao (他人の顔, or The Face of Another).
